I believe that old links to forum discussions should now work. Let me know if that's not the case.

I've fixed the links in my TOC posts at the top of the 2013, 2012, and 2011 ACTIVITIES overview threads. It should be easier to follow past years' ACTIVITIES now, since the links to the summaries now take you to the actual summary post, rather than just to the top of the page where the summary post resides.

There should be an automated way to update links like this throughout the forums, for someone who has access to the forum data. Basically, I just added a "p" to change URLs like
viewtopic.php?p=103629#103629
to URLs like
viewtopic.php?p=103629#p103629

You'd have to make sure you didn't make any undesired changes (regular expressions are fun!), and you'd have to make sure there weren't any other side effects (e.g., character counts or checksums being thrown off by making bulk changes, bypassing the normal edit functions). But it should be possible. But if we don't do it, then the consequences aren't that severe. Links still go to the right page. They just don't scroll down to the correct post automatically. And it affects only links to specific posts, not the other links.

Thanks, niraD! That's a glorious socialist achievement and your comrade Venona will be most pleased.

sammydee wrote:The Gallery, on the other hand. I don't know what to do with it at all. It used a plugin to PHPBB that was abandoned 5+ years ago by its author, and which doesn't seem to have any modern equivalent. We still have all the files, and I suppose that we have whatever database entries it created. But there's essentially zero chance of getting the old software to work.
From the perspective of repairing old forum threads (especially the old ACTIVITY threads), I think the most important thing would be for the old image URLs to work.

For example, the photo of those who joined the clue retrieval hike in this post:
viewtopic.php?p=104870#p104870

Or the images used during the ACTIVITY discussion in this post:
viewtopic.php?p=105292#p105292

I guess one possibility would be to put the old gallery images back in a read-only state (then you couldn't post new images to a gallery here but the old ones could be found). No idea whether this is straightforward or not.

OK, I've managed to retrieve (most of) the photos from the old Gallery. However, most of the metadata and all of the links are lost.

The photos are still divided into the original galleries, but the names and permissions associated with the galleries are lost. Galleries have numeric names; for example "10421". Who originally owned each - and whatever permissions they had - are lost.

Photos in each Gallery retain their original filenames, but captions and other metadata is lost.

A quick-and-dirty web page that will let you peruse the galleries is here:

http://thegba.net/coppermine/albums/use ... allery.php

The photos themselves - should you want to download them or link them somewhere - are here:

http://thegba.net/coppermine/albums/userpics

Who knows what sort of spoilers lurk within, and what has been seen cannot be unseen, so proceed with caution.

If anyone recognizes the topic of a particular Gallery let me know and I'll rename it from "123456" to whatever meaningful name you'd like.

And if anything should be deleted let me know.

Thank you!

Is there any chance that the old URLs like
http://thegba.net/coppermine/albums/use ... _Group.JPG
can be redirected to the new URLs like
http://thegba.net/gallery/albums/11995/normal_Group.JPG
?

Duh, sorry. I only saw the shortened URL (with the ...), not the full one you had posted earlier.

I'll see what I can do.

Very cool! The ACTIVITY threads that use a lot of gallery images are much more understandable. Thank you!

Hi Sam,
Is this still the approach for RSS feeds? I used this in Outlook 365, but am not seeing any posts beyond June of this year for anything except the "Site Status" forum. That forum is current on the feed. I deleted, restarted outlook and reentered the link, but same results.
